SMITH WALBRIDGE CLINICS: DRILL DESIGN WORKSHOP
JULY 15-17, 2016
EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY (CHARLESTON, IL)

While Smith Walbridge Clinics has been going strong for 67 years (founded in 1949), you could say that their Drill Design Workshop is still in its infancy going into year 13 of operation. Make no mistake, however, as the biggest drill design clinic in the Midwest packs some serious seat filling power.

For starters, there’s a duo at the helm of this workshop:

Dr. Corey Spurlin serves as Marching Band Director, Associate Director of Bands, and Associate Professor of Music at Auburn University. Under his direction, the Auburn University Marching Band, with 380 students, has the largest membership in university history and has performed twice at the Southeastern Conference Championship and BCS National Championship games, as well as the Chick-fil-a Bowl, the Outback Bowl, and overseas at the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland. Corey serves as the Alabama State Chair for the National Band Association, and is an active guest conductor, clinician, lecturer, and adjudicator throughout the United States.

Christopher Beason is the Woodwind Instructor at Mary Lillard Intermediate and Assistant Director at Danny Jones Middle School and Timberview High School in our wonderful Texas Public Schools. Prior to his move to Texas, Chris’ ensembles performed at the IMEA All-State conference as well as receiving top honors in the jazz, concert and marching fields. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he designs field shows for marching bands of all sizes around the country. Chris has been with Smith Walbridge for 16 years and will instruct the drill writing classes for directors and drum majors in addition to instructing various marching and techniques classes.

Rarely do you get the opportunity to learn from a team of such talented individuals, and we’re thrilled that our software will be a focal point for the workshop. The Smith Walbridge Clinics: Drill Design Workshop will be held July 15-17, 2016 on campus of Eastern Illinois University. The workshop is a “hands on” experience focusing on class instruction and individual assistance in writing your own drill. Beginners and seasoned veterans alike will benefit from this workshop as you’ll have the opportunity to work on your own drills with the assistance of a clinician.

Computer lab machines will be outfitted with our software, however attendees are encouraged to bring their own copy of the program with their notebook computers. Pyware 3D Interactive will be available for purchase at a discounted price during the workshop. Resident attendees will have instruction, housing, and all meals provided, while commuter attendees will have instruction, lunch, and dinner provided.
